Delicate Shells Newborn Hat, My New Pattern

To make these hats I used category 1, super fine (fingering) yarn, and size E/4 (3.5 mm) hook.

The hats turned out super soft and delicate. They measure about 13 inches in circumference, and 4.5 inches in height, which would fit a newborn baby.

To make a bigger size baby hat, use a bigger size hook and heavier yearn.

The skill level for this hat is beginner, and only basic stitches are used - single crochet, double crochet, slip stitch, and chains.

The pattern is very detailed and easy to read/follow. It's available in my Etsy Shop

Soft Puffs Baby Beanie

Baby beanies are so much fun to design and make. I made this one is size 3-6 months. It measures 15 inches in circumference and 6 inches in height.

Usually I prefer working with smaller size hooks than recommended for a particular yarn, but for this hat I liked working with a big size hook (size H, 5.00 mm) as I wanted to achieve a very soft and light texture.

The yarn I used is Caron Simply Soft Party, about 100 yards.

The pattern for this baby beanie hat is available in my Etsy shop

Crochet Beret Hat for my Doll

Here is my second attempt at making a beret. You can see the first one here

I'm still working on the pattern. I want to rework it for a bigger size, so it will be suitable for a girl 5-10 years old. I also have an idea for a matching scarf.

I bought the doll shown in the pictures last year. She's so adorable, and makes a lovely model. I've been on the lookout for a new one, but couldn't find one yet. Crocheting for dolls is so much fun! It brings back childhood memories.

Lacy Vintage Bonnet, Free Crochet Pattern

I made this bonnet following a vintage pattern from Crochet for Your Baby and Knit Too! Star Baby Book 130 by American Thread Company, 1956.

I used a small amount of leftover category 1 yarn from my stash. I'm not sure what size hook I used. I just went alone with a steel hook that felt comfortable for this yarn. It's a vintage hook, and all it says on it is "Boye 1", and on the other side "U.S.A. 10 cents".

The finished size in the original pattern is 6 months, but my bonnet came out about the size 0-3 months. It fits my 20 inch doll perfectly.

I post the pattern exactly as it appears in the original publication. However, I added a few notes of mine.
In third rounds all it says is to increase 6 dc. So in green font in parenthesis, I wrote how exactly I made my increases.
Also I started my sixth round with a chain; I also indicated that in green font.

Otherwise, the pattern was easy to follow and I made my bonnet in one evening.

Chain (ch) 4, join to form a ring, ch 3 [counts as 1 double crochet (d c)], 13 d c in ring, join.

New Preemie Patterns

I recently added a few preemie patterns to my Etsy and Craftsy stores.

This preemie dress is made with light worsted baby yarn and size F hook. It’s very easy and quick to make, and only basic stitches (dc, sc, sl st, ch) were used in this pattern. The dress is quite small; it will also fit a 20-inch doll.

The preemie hats are made with cluster stitch. Again they are made with light worsted baby yarn and size F hook. The measurements are about 11 inches in circumference and 4 inches in height.
A similar pattern in size 3-6 months is also available in my shops.

And the last pattern is a super easy to make diaper cover. It’s made with very soft cotton yarn and size H hook.

Thank you for stopping by and enjoy the Holiday Season!

Preemie Baby Crochet Hats

One of the customers from my Etsy shop contacted me asking about preemie patterns, and I realized that I didn’t have any. I added “preemie patterns” to my list of crochet ideas and projects to do. And this is the first preemie pattern that I’ve made.

I used size F crochet hook and baby sport yarn (Beehive Baby Sport by Patons). The finished hat measures approximately 13 inches in circumference, and 5 inches in height, quite small.

I used the same stitch that I used for the last baby blanket I made. And I love how this beanie turned out. I made five of them as I wanted to try different color combinations. It also looks cute when made with variegated yarn.

I will be mailing these preemie baby hats to Stitches from the Heart charity.

Baby Hat with Three Flowers, Pattern Giveaway

These are not some fancy stitch baby hats. On the contrary, they are simple double-crochet ones. An advanced crocheter could probably make something similar without a pattern. But, not all of us have advanced crochet skills, so I designed this pattern for the beginners.

Despite the fact that the patter is easy, I put a lot of work into creating it. The most challenging part was figuring out the right amount of increases for each of the four sizes (0, 3, 6, 12 months) that I made.

Moreover, I made an effort to write this pattern as close to the standard form as possible.

I offer my first “real” crochet pattern in PDF format to one of my readers. Just leave me a comment and I will add you to the random drawing. I will announce the winner in my next post on Thursday, March 13.

I also put this pattern for sale in my Etsy shop for $1.75

Crochet Blocks Toddler Beanie, Free Pattern

The little fellow in the pictures is my younger son Niko, and he is wearing a beanie hat that I made for him. What’s cool about this hat is that it’s entirely recycled!

Over a year ago I bought a skein of Country yarn by Naturally Caron (75% acrylic, 25% merino wool), and I used it to make my son a Bear Beanie shown below. But my son grew out of it, so I unraveled it and made a new hat.

Here in California winters are warm (especially this year), so the open block stitch worked well for this project. If you use a girly color yarn and add a flower (see free flower patterns here), you’ll have a cute beanie hat for a toddler girl.
