Crochet Flower Bookmark

I made this flower bookmark from simple thread flowers. See the flower tutorial here.

I simply stitched seven flowers together in a row.

Next I used DMC size 8 pearl cotton thread and size 10 steel hook to connect all the petals with ch 9 loops.

Finally, I made 7 sc in each loop around.

Voila! I now have one more crochet bookmark in my collection!

Lacy Lilac Bookmark

Reading is one of my favorite past times. I prefer old-fashioned hard copies rather than reading on Ipad or Kindle. And with an actual book, one needs a bookmark. I made myself a few crocheted bookmarks in the past and just now added another one to my collection.

I used a small amount of leftover size 10 thread in lilac and purple colors. I also used size 10 steel hook. It had been a while since I worked with such small hook, and at first it felt a bit strange and my stitches were coming out clumsy. But soon I got hand of it.

The blue flowers in the pictures are called Blue Nigella. They are in full bloom in my yard now.

Ch 15.

Row 1: (4 dc, ch 3, 1 dc) all in 5th ch from hook, sk 5 ch, (4 dc, ch 3, 1 dc) all in next ch, dc in last ch. Ch 3, turn.

Row 2: *(4 dc, ch 3, 1 dc) all in next ch-3 space* twice, dc in 3rd ch of turning ch-3. Ch 3, turn.

Repeat Row 2 until you have 26 rows it total. Don’t make turning ch 3 at the end of Row 26.

Row 27: Turn, ch 5, sc in next dc, ch 5, sc in 1st dc of the next group of dc, dc in 3rd ch of turning ch-3.

Fasten off. Attach thread of contrasting color in same corner to make border.

Working in end of rows: *3 sc in next space* across, 7 sc in corner space.

Working in original chain: sc in next space where group of dc is made, 5 sc in next ch space, sc in next space where group of dc is made, 6 sc in corner space.

Working in end of rows: *3 sc in next space* across, 7 sc in corner space.

Working in last row: 7 sc in next ch space, 6 sc in corner space. Join with sl st. Fasten off.

If you wish to stiffen your bookmark, you can use spray on starch and hot iron.

Easter Eggs Bookmark, Filet Crochet Pattern

I am trying my hand at creating filet crochet patterns. I thought I should start with something as simple as a bookmark.

I made the chart using Microsoft Excel. It was quite easy.

And I set to work. I used size ten cotton thread and Boye size 7 steel hook. Usually, with size ten thread I use size ten hook, which produce tight stitches.

I like crocheting tightly, but this time I wanted to try looser stitches. As a result, my bookmark came out much bigger than I expected. It measures eight by three inches.

Spider Stitch Exploration: Let’s Make a Bookmark

If you have mastered making spider stitch swatch from my previous post in this series, it will be easy for you to make a bookmark like these two. Just repeat the pattern five times. Then crochet around to make a scalloped edge.

I used crochet thread number 10 and a steel hook size 10.

Bookmark from Ally

A few weeks ago, I posted about a fan bookmark that I crocheted for a bookmark exchange. The other day, a crocheted bookmark arrived to my mailbox too!

My bookmark exchange partner Ally sent me this charming lilac bookmark. I love the tiny white flowers on it!

To fully enjoy my new beautiful bookmark, I put it in the book I’m reading right now (which is Smoke Bellew by Jack London).

Big thanks to Ally for this lovely gift!

Fan Bookmark

crochet fan bookmark

I recently signed up for a bookmark exchange, and this is the bookmark I made for my exchange partner.

If you follow my blog, you probably know that about two weeks ago, I crocheted a heart bookmark using pink thread. I didn’t feel like making another thread bookmark, so I decided to experiment with thin yarn.

I found the pattern on Crochetroo blog (click and scroll down for American instructions). What’s great about this pattern is that the author has it in several different languages. The blog itself wasn’t updated since last summer, but it has many interesting crochet projects and patterns in its archive.

I am very satisfied with the way my bookmark turned out. I only need to buy spray starch to stiffen it a bit, and it will be ready to be mailed to its recipient.

Hearts Bookmark

The Holiday Season is behind us, but now there is Valentine's Day to look forward to. I enjoy the anticipation of it more than the holiday itself. For me, the best part is making little gifts and trinkets for friends and family.

This little heart bookmark is for a friend who enjoys reading. I found the pattern at Free Craft Unlimited.

There is a little personal accomplishment associated with this bookmark pattern. It is the first written instructions pattern that I was able to complete!

English is not my native language, so until now written patterns in English didn’t make any sense to me (I prefer symbol charts). But now, little by little, they become more comprehensible.

If I study hard enough, perhaps one day I will be able to write instructions for my own patterns. That would be great!
