Small Doily in Cream Color

Here is another doily pattern that I came up with. The doily is slightly bigger than my previous doily and measures 8.5 inches (about 21.5 cm) in diameter.

I used size 10 crochet cotton thread in cream color, and size 5 Boye crochet steel hook.

The pattern has 10 rounds and employs chains, slip stitches, single crochets, double crochets, and treble crochets. Nothing too difficult!

I didn’t have anyone test the pattern, so if you see any mistakes or something doesn’t make sense, please let me know.

Summer Baby Blanket in Variegated Yarn, Free Pattern

This is the seventh baby blanket I’ve made this year. I used Bernat Baby Sport yarn, and my blanket came out very light and airy. I think it’s perfect for babies born in summer as it is not as warm as blankets made with worsted yarn.

The edging is quite simple; it’s only one round of single crochets. The reason for that is that I didn’t have enough yarn to make a fancier edging. This blanket took exactly one ball of yarn (892 yds/8.5 oz), and I only had a few yards of yarn left.

But I think even with a simple border, the lacy stitch and variegated yarn make this blanket quite lovely.

The stitch pattern is very easy and quick to work. In fact, I made this baby blanket in only three days.

Skill Level: Easy

Approximately 32 inches (81 cm) square.

Bernat Baby Sport, Tiny Tulips, 1 ball (892 yds/816 m)

US Crochet Hook Size E/4 (3.50 MM). This is not the recommended hook for this yarn, but I like using smaller size hooks, so that my stitches come out a bit tighter.

Ch 141 loosely.

Row 1: (4dc, ch 3, dc) all in 5th ch from hook, *skip 5 ch, (4 dc, ch 3, dc) all in next ch* across, dc in last ch. Ch 3, turn.

Row 2: *(4 dc, ch 3, dc) all in next ch-3 space* across, dc in 3rd ch of turning ch-3. Ch 3, turn.

Repeat Row 2 until you have 56 rows in total. Don’t make turning ch 3 in last row.

Trim:

Working in last row: Ch 1, turn. *3 sc in next ch-3 space, skip next dc, 2 sc in next 2 dc* across.

Working in end of rows: *3 sc in next end of row, 2 sc in next end of row* across. Make 5 dc in corner space.

Working in original chain: *sc in next space where 4 dc of Row 1 where made, 4 sc in next ch-space* across. Make 4 dc in corner space.

Working in end of rows: *3 sc in next end of row, 2 sc in next end of row* across. Sl st to join the round.

Fasten off.

White Newborn Hat

I found the free pattern for this hat at Alli Crafts. It’s very easy and quick to make. Alli has a few other free baby hat patterns on her blog, which I hope to try.

I used Red Heart Shimmer white acrylic yarn and size E/4 (3.5mm) hook.

I adorned my baby hat with a pink flower from the previous post (you can see the flower pattern here).

One Pattern, Two Flowers

I recently made a baby hat and was looking for a flower to adorn it. I didn’t want to use any of the flowers I already used, so I experimented and came up with a new flower pattern.

The two flowers shown in the pictures are basically the same pattern with one difference – chain ring vs. magic ring as a start.

The flower on the right was made starting with a chain 5 joined into a ring. I wasn’t too happy about the big hole in the middle. Though it works nicely if a cute button is added (I didn’t have a cute button on hand, so I used the only one I could find simply for the sake of taking a picture).

So, to fix the problem of the big empty flower center, I tried a magic ring. It worked out perfectly! The flower on the left is the one I will be using for my baby hat (which I’ll show you later this week).

If you are not familiar with the magic ring technique, this tutorial might be helpful.

I used Snuggly Wuggly by Loops and Threads and US size H/8 (5.00 mm) hook. The flowers turned out almost three inches (about 7.5 cm) in diameter.

I give the patterns for both versions below.

Empty Center Crochet Flower

Ch 5, join in ring with sl st.

Round 1: ch 1, *2 dc, sc in ring * 5 times, sl st into first ch-1 to join the round.

Round 2: ch 2, turn the flower to the wrong side and work into original ring, sc in between next 2 dc, ch 3, *sc in between next 2 dc, ch 3* 4 times, sl st into first sc to join the round. You should have five ch-3 loops on the wrong side of the flower.

Continue working on the right side of the flower into the ch-3 loops made in Round 2.

Round 3: ch 1, *5 dc in next ch-3 space,  sc in next sc* 5 times.

Fasten off.

Closed Center Crochet Flower

Magic ring

Round 1:  ch 1, *2 dc, sc in ring * 5 times, sl st into first ch-1 to join the round. Don’t pull the magic ring yet!

Pull the ring tightly!

Continue working on the right side of the flower into the ch-3 loops made in Round 2.

Round 3: ch 1, *5 dc in next ch-3 space,  sc in next sc* 5 times.

Fasten off.
