I discovered Caron x Pantone yarn just recently even though it’s been around for a while!
I must say this yarn is somewhat pricey at $7.99, but there are always options to buy it with a coupon or on sale/clearance. I bought three braids on clearance for $4 each.
I am fascinated with this yarn! The colors are beautiful and the texture is soft!
I challenged myself to come up with a crochet project idea that would only require one braid of this yarn!
And this is the result!
This newborn dress requires only one braid! Because it’s a chunky yarn (category 5), it works up quickly and the entire dress can be made in about an hour!
I made it in two color variations - Bright Orchid and Wistfully!
I filmed a very detailed video tutorial! I only recently started my YouTube channel and I have lot’s of ideas for upcoming videos.
If you enjoy this pattern and my video, please take a moment to subscribe to my channel and/or leave me a comment! Knowing that my patterns and videos are useful to other crocheters is a huge motivation and encouragement for me!
The free written pattern is available on my website olgapoltava.com
It is a small doily (only 10 inches across after blocking), which features lots of popcorns.
This doily is quick and easy to make, and only takes about 100 yards of thread.
I name my doilies after my friends, so I named this doily Ninfa after my very good friend.
I only met Ninfa last year, but we became instant friends. We live in the same neighborhood, go to the gym together, occasionally meet for coffee at our local Starbucks, go hiking, and text each other every day!
Yesterday we went on a hike up on the foothills behind my house. We've been having a lot of rain here in Northern California, and the hills turned so lusciously green! What a joy to go for a walk with a good friend to enjoy the nature and fresh air!
My Ninfa Doily pattern is available in my shops on Etsy and Ravelry!
I am so excited to share that I finally made my first ever crochet video!
For many years, I had been getting questions and requests regarding crochet video tutorials, but I was reluctant to give it a try.
If you think about it, it's quite intimidating putting yourself out there. It's not an easy step.
It was especially not easy for me. English is not my native language. I speak with an accent and make grammar mistakes. I am extremely self-conscious! You can hear in the video (especially in the beginning) that my voice is trembling. I do hope it will get easier with time, and my future videos will be of better quality.
The first video that I made is for the Caron Simply Soft Lace Scarf that I shared the pattern for a couple of years ago.
As I was uploading this video on YouTube, my seven-year old son walked into the room. "What mommy? You are a youtuber now?" he was so surprised. If you ask him what he wants to be when he grows up, he'll answer without hesitation: "A youtuber!"
"Mommy, you set the comments on? Bad choice, mommy! Don't you know who trolls are? Trolls are people who will post nasty things in the comments. They will say really hurtful things, mommy!"
Isn't it sweet how how my son is concerned about someone hurting my feelings?
But life of full of trolls, in one way or another. But it's also full of wonderful, kind-hearted people, who will support you and cheer up for you. I am putting myself out there with these kind people in mind. And trolls, well, I'll have to learn to ignore them.
Happy New Year! I wish you all lots of creativity and fun crochet projects in 2019!
I have a new crochet pattern to share!
I named this pattern Rabbit Tracks Baby Blanket! It's a very simple pattern. If you know how to make chains, single and double crochets, and slip stitches, your are good to go!
Skill Level: Beginner
Finished Measurements: approximately 30 by 30 inches
Materials:
US hook size G/6 (4.25 mm)
Light worsted 100% acrylic yarn, about 1000 yards (I used Snuggly Wuggly by Loops & Threads)
This is my most recent design - Alina Doily (I name my doilies after my friends).
Most of the time, I make my doilies in white, as it's at the classic color for doilies. When browsing through vintage patterns, you will see that they are exclusively white.
But it's fun to experiment with colors!
I have to admit I'm not very good at creating interesting color combinations. But I am pleased with the colors I chose for this doily.
I really like it! Feels very fresh and crisp, just like the winter air outside of my home right now!
Finally I have a new doily pattern! I named this doily after a friend of mine. I now made it a tradition to name my doilies after friends, and I like this idea.
This doily measures about 16 inches across (after blocking). I used Aunt Lydia's classic cotton thread size ten and a 1.5 mm steel hook.
I like the way my doily looks in white, and right now I'm working on another Alina doily in blue, white, and green. It's coming out lovely.
But just look how pretty it looks in variegated thread! The doily shown below was made by Jovette, who tested the pattern for me. Thank you Jovette!
The pattern is available in my Etsy, Craftsy, and Ravelry shops. For the next few days, the price is 50% off.
I'm also having a giveaway for this pattern on my Facebook page. To enter my giveaway, follow/like my FB page and leave a comment on the post about this doily pattern. I will draw three people at random and announce the winners on Wednesday morning (December 12).
Those of you who have been blogging or following blogs for many years probably have noticed that it has changed dramatically!
A lot of wonderful bloggers have left the blogland, others moved to different platforms like Facebook and Youtube.
Do you remember the fun times of link parties and giveaways? I don't see very many of those either.
My own blog and blogging style have changed too! I started by blog as a way to connect with other women and share my work.
But with time it grew from hobby to a small business. And of course, there is nothing wrong with making money from one's work; we all need to pay our bills and buy our food. But there are days when I miss blogging just for the joy of it!
Reminiscing for the past days, I decided to have a Giveaway!
This doily is called Pineapple Bouquet and I designed it earlier this year. I am giving away my pattern to three winners.
To enter my giveaway, please visit my Facebook Page, follow me (if you are not a follower yet) and leave me a comment on the post about this giveaway!
Hello and welcome! My blog started out of my love for crochet doilies and lace handkerchief edgings, but now you will find all kinds of crochet projects here.
