You probably have seen this stitch (or a variation of it) before. I used a very similar one (though not exactly the same) to make my Spider Stitch Shawl.
This open stitch would work great for a light afghan, a lacy baby christening shawl, a table runner, a summer blouse, etc.

Multiple of 17, plus 4
I started with ch 55.
Row 1: dc in 5th ch from hook, *ch 5, skip 5 ch, sc in next ch, sc in next 2 ch, ch 5, skip 5 ch, dc in next ch, dc in next 3 ch* across, ending with dc in last 2 ch.
Row 2: ch 3, turn, *dc in next dc, 3 dc in 1st ch of next ch-5, ch 4, skip next sc, sc in next (middle) sc, ch 4, 3 dc in 5th ch of next ch-5, dc in next dc, ch 3, skip next 2 dc* across, ending with 3 dc in 5th ch of last ch-5, dc in next dc, dc in top of turning ch.
Row 3: ch 1, turn, sc in same begging space, *ch 4, skip next 3 dc, dc in next dc, 3 dc in 1st ch of next ch-4, ch 2, skip sc, 3 dc in 4th ch of next ch-4, dc in next dc, ch 4, sc in 2nd (middle) ch of next ch-3* across, ending with ch 4, sc in top of turning ch.
Row 4: ch 8, turn, *skip next 4 dc, 2 dc in each ch of next ch-2, ch 5, skip next 4 dc, sc in 4th ch of next ch-4, sc in next sc, sc in 1st ch of next ch-4, ch 5* across, ending with ch 5, dc in last sc.
Row 5: ch 1, turn, sc in same beginning space, *ch 4, 3 dc in 5th ch of next ch-5, dc in next dc, ch 3, skip next 2 dc, dc in next dc, 3 dc in 1st ch of next ch-5, ch 4, skip next sc, sc in next (middle) sc* across, ending with 3 dc in 1st ch of last ch-8, ch 4, and sc in 3rd ch (counting from bottom) of turning ch-8.
Row 6: ch 5, turn, *3 dc in 4th ch of next ch-4, dc in next dc, ch 4, sc in 2nd (middle) ch of next ch-3, ch 4, skip next 3 dc, dc in next dc, 3 dc in 1st ch of next ch-4, ch 2, skip sc* across, ending with 3 dc in 1st ch of last ch-4, tr in last sc.
Row 7: ch 3, turn, dc in same beginning space, *ch 5, skip next 4 dc, sc in 4th ch of next ch-4, sc in next sc, sc in 1st ch of next ch-4, ch 5, skip next 4 dc, 2 dc in each ch of next ch-2* across, ending with ch 5, 2 dc in top of turning ch.
Repeat Rows 2-7 for the pattern.
