Lace Spiders Crochet Stitch Pattern and Tutorial

You probably have seen this stitch (or a variation of it) before. I used a very similar one (though not exactly the same) to make my Spider Stitch Shawl. 

This open stitch would work great for a light afghan, a lacy baby christening shawl, a table runner, a summer blouse, etc. 

I made a detailed, step-by-step photo tutorial. I hope it will be useful. 

Multiple of 17, plus 4

I started with ch 55. 

Row 1: dc in 5th ch from hook, *ch 5, skip 5 ch, sc in next ch, sc in next 2 ch, ch 5, skip 5 ch, dc in next ch, dc in next 3 ch* across, ending with dc in last 2 ch. 

Row 2: ch 3, turn, *dc in next dc, 3 dc in 1st ch of next ch-5, ch 4, skip next sc, sc in next (middle) sc, ch 4, 3 dc in 5th ch of next ch-5, dc in next dc, ch 3, skip next 2 dc* across, ending with 3 dc in 5th ch of last ch-5, dc in next dc, dc in top of turning ch. 

Row 3: ch 1, turn, sc in same begging space, *ch 4, skip next 3 dc, dc in next dc, 3 dc in 1st ch of next ch-4, ch 2, skip sc, 3 dc in 4th ch of next ch-4, dc in next dc, ch 4, sc in 2nd (middle) ch of next ch-3* across, ending with ch 4, sc in top of turning ch.

Row 4: ch 8, turn, *skip next 4 dc, 2 dc in each ch of next ch-2, ch 5, skip next 4 dc, sc in 4th ch of next ch-4, sc in next sc, sc in 1st ch of next ch-4, ch 5* across, ending with ch 5, dc in last sc. 

Row 5: ch 1, turn, sc in same beginning space, *ch 4, 3 dc in 5th ch of next ch-5, dc in next dc, ch 3, skip next 2 dc, dc in next dc, 3 dc in 1st ch of next ch-5, ch 4, skip next sc, sc in next (middle) sc* across, ending with 3 dc in 1st ch of last ch-8, ch 4, and sc in 3rd ch (counting from bottom) of turning ch-8. 

Row 6: ch 5, turn, *3 dc in 4th ch of next ch-4, dc in next dc, ch 4, sc in 2nd (middle) ch of next ch-3, ch 4, skip next 3 dc, dc in next dc, 3 dc in 1st ch of next ch-4, ch 2, skip sc* across, ending with 3 dc in 1st ch of last ch-4, tr in last sc. 

Row 7: ch 3, turn, dc in same beginning space, *ch 5, skip next 4 dc, sc in 4th ch of next ch-4, sc in next sc, sc in 1st ch of next ch-4, ch 5, skip next 4 dc, 2 dc in each ch of next ch-2* across, ending with ch 5, 2 dc in top of turning ch. 

Repeat Rows 2-7 for the pattern.

Simple Granny Stitch Crochet Dress, Size 2-3 Years Old, Free Crochet Pattern

I'd like to share my free pattern for this simple crochet dress. It is very easy to make.

It can be made in solid color or in multiple bright colors. It can be decorated with bows or crochet flowers. 

This pattern is written using US crochet terminology. 

Size: 2-3 Years Old

Finished Measurements: 
chest - 26 inches
length - 21 inches 

Skill Level: Beginner

Materials: 

US Hook size E/4 (3.5 MM) 

Category 2, fine yarn, cotton and acrylic blend, about 630 yards

For the dress shown I used Cotton Fair by Premier Yarns (52% cotton, 48 % acrylic), two balls (317 yards each) 

Gauge: 
in first round, 9 dc and 2 ch-spaces between them = 2.5 inches; 
2 rounds = 1 inch in height

  

Abbreviations:

ch chain

sl st slip stitch

dc double crochet

* * Instructions between asterisks should be repeated as many times as there are stitches to accommodate them or as many times as stated. 

Ch 88, join in ring with sl st, be careful not to twist the chain. 

Round 1: ch 4 (counts as 1st dc and ch 1), skip next ch, dc in next 3 ch, *ch 1, skip next ch, dc in next 3 ch* four times, {ch 3, dc in same st where previous dc was made (corner made), dc in next 2 ch, *ch 1, skip next ch, dc in next 3 ch* five times} repeat the instructions within { } three times, ch 3, dc in same st where previous dc was made (last corner made), dc in next ch, join with sl st to 3rd ch of beginning ch-3. 

Round 2: ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), 2 dc in 1st ch-1 space, {ch 1, *3 dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1* across to corner, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) all in corner ch-3 space} repeat the instructions within { } four times, join with hdc to 3rd ch of beginning ch-3 (this brings hook and yarn in position for next round).

Round 3: ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), 2 dc in space formed with hdc, {ch 1, *3 dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1* across to corner, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) all in corner ch-3 space} repeat the instructions within { } four times, join with hdc to 3rd ch of beginning ch-3 (this brings hook and yarn in position for next round).

Rounds 4-6: Repeat Round 3.

Round 7: same as Round 3 to first corner, 3 dc in corner ch-3 space, ch 1, skip to next corner, 3 dc in corner ch-3 space, continue to next corner the same way as in Round 3, 3 dc in corner ch-3 space, ch 1, skip to next corner, 3 dc in corner ch-3 space, join with dc to 3rd ch of beginning ch-3. 

Round 8: ch 3, 2 dc in space formed with hdc, ch 1, *3 dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1* across to 1st underarm, 3 dc in underarm ch-1 (in ch, not ch-1 space), ch 1, *3 dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1* across to the second underarm, 3 dc in underarm ch-1, join with hdc. 

Round 9: ch 3, (dc, ch 1, 2 dc) all in space formed with hdc, ch 1, *(2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) all in next ch-1 space, ch 1* around; join with hdc. 

Round 10: ch 3, 2 dc in space formed with hdc, ch 1, *3 dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1* around, join with hdc. 

Repeat Round 10 until the dress measures 21 inches (or your desired length). 

Fasten off.

White Lace Spiders Baby Blanket, Baby Afghan, Baby Christening Shawl

I can't believe I haven't updated my blog for more than a month! 

Time goes by so quickly, and now that it's spring and the clock was switched to the day light savings, my children and I spend a lot of time outdoors. 

But I still manage to get some crochet done, here and there. 

My last complete project is this lace baby blanket, or christening shawl. 

I like this stitch. It looks so delicate in white. I think it will look even better made with a finer yarn. 

I used Snuggly Wuggly by Loops & Threads, and a size G (4.25 mm) hook. 

The finished blanket measures about 36 by 30 inches, but it can easily be adjusted to a bigger size.
