New Pineapple Skirt in Progress

Back in September I made myself a purple pineapple skirt, and now I finally started working on another one.

This time I’m taking detailed notes along the way, so that I can write the pattern. Even though I’m using the pineapple stitch for this skirt as well, the design of this skirt will be different.
I chose bright red color, which I belive will look great with white or black.

I’m using Bernat Handicrafter crochet acrylic thread that I bought online from Joann. I purchased a ball of 1,746 yards, which should be enough for my skirt. Joann has a great selection of colors, and I actually bought three additional balls of this thread in pink, linen, and robust red. I am quite stocked up for the future projects!

I’ve completed 12 rounds so far, but the “pineapples” are not showing yet.

This is my second attempt. I had made about a fourth of the skirt but had to unravel it all because it wasn’t coming out the way I wanted it. But it seems much better now.

I’m very excited about this project and I can’t wait to finish it. I think it will turn out even better than the purple one.

  5. I love your purple pineapple skirt and to think you may improve on it and write a pattern is very exciting. I can't wait to see this red one. Does it really only need 1 skein of crochet thread, that statement alone amazes me. I have never worked anything in this sort of thread but it seems it goes a long way. Keep us all posted on your progress, amazing talent Olga :-)

    1. Yes, it's only one ball of thread but it's a huge one; it weights 14 oz (400 grams).

  7. I have often wondered how it is that someone creates an item. This is something that I would like to do, but
how do you begin? Do you just begin crocheting and see what comes out, or do you start with an idea which you modify along the way. I have always found that to be something of interest. Your skirt will be lovely.

    1. When I was making my first purple skirt, I didn't have a clear idea. I just crocheted it and tried it on frequently to see how it was coming out. If it was too wide, I would unravel a few rounds and make fewer increases and vice versa. So, like you said, I was modifying it along the way.
But with this second one I actually have a starting idea. I want to make a full skirt by basically crocheting a huge doily with a whole in the middle. But again I might make some changes/modifications along the way.
