Over the last year, I have designed quite a few baby
blankets. I also have made tons of doilies. I feel now it’s time to venture
into something new. Perhaps crochet baby dresses?
I’ve only made a few of baby dresses in the past using
other people’s patterns. But of course I want to learn making my own designs.
So here is my first attempt.
I am both pleased and disappointed with it. I’m pleased because
it looks cute and the pattern is not complicated, but I’m disappointed because my
baby dress didn’t come out its intended size. I made a mistake by choosing
worsted weight yarn while I should’ve used something lighter. The intended size
was 0-3 months, but the finished size is about 12 months. What is more, the
dress came out somewhat heavy and bulky.
I’m going to make this same dress with light worsted or DK
yarn instead. I’ll share the results with you later.
so sweet:)
ReplyDeleteGreat first effort. I'm so excited to see what more you do in this area!
ReplyDeleteIt may not be the size you wanted, but it's certainly a very pretty dress. Well done.

It really did come out cute okay. I have come across the same problem while crocheting hats and other things for children. I know you will perfect these patterns because your work is always so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWOW..beautiful....
ReplyDeleteIt's a very cute dress!! I agree baby dresses should be with DK or lighter yarns.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty.. :))
ReplyDeleteVery cute dress. I have so far tried out three different patterns for baby dresses, somehow they never turn out right. Looking forward to seeing this dress in a lighter yarn. Have a nice day.
ReplyDeleteSuper sweet !

the dress is adorable Linda! too bad you don't feel the sizing was right, but it will be big enough as she grows :)

I totally understand your frustration with the size and the heaviness of the fabric, it looks so beautiful and would look adorable with white tights and a long sleeved shirt for winter months, the heavier yarn would make it nice and warm.

Πολύ ωραίο, συγχαρητήρια!!!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful, sweet, darling, lovely! Your work always amazes me with its delicateness and lovely colour...Chrissie x
ReplyDeleteОльга, красивое получилось платье, жаль, что не подходит по размеру.
ReplyDeleteI always use fingering weight for baby crochet, I find the smaller hook and smaller stitches work better for me, more in scale to the little person who will be wearing it. This dress is super cute and I love the shape of the bodice and straps, which resemble little cap sleeves to me, great work and good luck with your new crochet adventures xx
