Ch 8, join in ring with sl st.

Round 1: ch 6, *dc in ring, ch 3* seven times; join with st st to 3^rd ch of beginning ch-6.

Round 2: (sc, hdc, 3 dc, hdc, sc) in each ch-3 loop.

Round 3: working behind Round 2, sl st to 1^st dc of Round 1, *ch 5, sl st to next dc of Round 1* seven times.

Round 4: (sc, hdc, 5 dc, hdc, sc) in each ch-5 loop.

Round 5: working behind Round 4, sl st to 1^st dc of Round 1, *ch 7, sl st to next dc of Round 1* seven times.

Round 6: (sc, hdc, 7 dc, hdc, sc) in each ch-7 loop.

Round 7: working behind Round 6, sl st to 1^st dc of Round 1, *ch 9, sl st to next dc of Round 1* seven times.

Crochet Family Heirlooms

Do you have any crochet heirlooms in your family? How old are they? Who made them?

This beautiful crochet motif tablecloth was made by my husband’s great-grandmother! My husband and I received it from my mother-in-law a couple of years ago.

Originally this piece was intended as a bed spread, but unfortunately the work wasn’t completely finished. But it’s still very beautiful and I use it as a small tablecloth quite often.

One of the things on my endless crochet to-do list is to try to reconstruct this motif pattern. It doesn’t seem too complicated, but it will take some time of experimenting before I figure it out.

Crochet Baby Dress, Size 0-1 Months

Do you remember the baby dress that I made back in February? I liked my pattern, but I wasn’t very happy with my yarn choice (I used worsted weight yarn, and my dress turned out too heavy).

I tried the same pattern with light worsted (size 3) yarn, which worked wonderfully. To be specific I used one skein of Beehive Baby Sport by Patons (70% acrylic, 30% nylon). That yarn is very soft and easy to work with.

I think this dress looks just as lovely in variegated yarn as in two solid colors.

I wrote a very detailed pattern for the dress and I included several pictures of the yoke since that’s the most challenging part. But overall the skill level for this pattern is easy and I believe even a beginner can make this dress.

Crochet Baby Booties Tutorial

This is a tutorial for the baby booties pattern that I shared back in January. I hope it will be useful!

The size is 0-6 months depending on the yarn you use. In this tutorial I used worsted weight yarn, and my booties came about 4.5 inches in foot length, which is approximately size 6 months. Use lighter yarns to achieve smaller sizes.

Round 1: ch 17, 4 dc in 3rd ch form hook (first skipped 2 ch count as first dc), 13 dc across, 5 dc in last ch, 13 dc across working in original chain. Join with sl st. 36 dc in total

Round 2: ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in same space, 2 dc in each of next 4 dc, 13 dc, 2 dc in each of next 5 dc, 13 dc. Join with sl st. 46 dc in total

Round 3: ch 1 (doesn’t count as a stitch), sc in same st, sc in each st around. Join with sl st. 46 sc in total

Round 4: ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in back loop only in each sc around. Join with sl st. 46 dc in total

Round 5: ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in next 22 dc, {dc2tog over next 2 dc} 5 times, dc in next 13 dc. Join with sl st. 23 dc, 5 dc2tog, 13 dc

Fasten off, wave in end.

Front of the bootie:

Half-round 6: On the front of the bootie locate the central stitch (it’s the 3rd dc2tog), count 8 stitches to the right, attach yarn in 8th st; ch 2, dc in next st (counts as first dc2tog), {dc2tog over next 2 st} 8 times. 9 dc2tog in total.

Turn.

Half-round 7: dc8tog over next 8 st. Turn.

Round 8: ch 3, (dc, ch 2, 2dc) all in same space (counts as first shell), skip next half-round, shell in end of next half-round, *skip next 3 dc, shell in next dc* 6 times, shell in end of next half-round. Join with sl st to beginning shell. 9 shells in total

Rounds 9-11: sl st to next ch-2, ch 3, (dc, ch 2, 2dc) all in same space (counts as first shell), shell over next shell around. Join with sl st to beginning shell. 9 shells in total

Fasten off.

Pin the safety pin into one end of the ribbon. Pass it through the open spaces in the first round of shells. Tie a bow. Trim the ribbon ends if needed.

Baby Hat with Three Flowers, Pattern Giveaway

These are not some fancy stitch baby hats. On the contrary, they are simple double-crochet ones. An advanced crocheter could probably make something similar without a pattern. But, not all of us have advanced crochet skills, so I designed this pattern for the beginners.

Despite the fact that the patter is easy, I put a lot of work into creating it. The most challenging part was figuring out the right amount of increases for each of the four sizes (0, 3, 6, 12 months) that I made.

Moreover, I made an effort to write this pattern as close to the standard form as possible.

Tiny Tulips Baby Blanket, Free Crochet Pattern

I named this baby blanket Tiny Tulips not only because it’s the color name of the variegated yarn that I used, but also because the shells used in this stitch do slightly remind me of tulips.

This baby blanket is made using exactly one ball (892 yards) of Bernat Baby Sport yarn. The stitch is simple enough, involving only two repeating rows. In case you would like to use this stitch for another project, it’s a multiple of 8, plus 1.

This pattern is my original design. It cannot be posted on other sites or distributed in any other form. Finished size: 37 by 26 inches

Bernat Baby Sport, color Tiny Tulips, 1 ball (892 yds )

US hook size G/6 (4.25 mm)

Shell: (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) all in same space.

Ch 121 loosely.

Row 1: shell in 6^th ch from hook, *ch 1, skip 3 ch, (sc, ch 3, sc) all in next ch, ch 1, skip 3 ch, shell in next ch* across, dc in last ch. 

Row 2: ch 3, turn; (sc, ch 3, sc) all in next shell, *ch 1, shell in next ch-3 space, ch 1, (sc, ch 3, sc) all in next shell* across, dc in 2^nd ch of turning ch-3.

Row 3: ch 3, turn; shell in next ch-3 space, *ch 1, (sc, ch 3, sc) all in next shell, ch 1, shell in next ch-3 space* across, dc in 2^nd ch of turning ch-3.

Repeat Row 2 – Row 3 until the blanket is about 37 inches long. Fasten off.
