Ziva Doily by Preetha Jeyaram Mohan

Textured doilies have become quite popular in the last few/several years. I've made probably over a hundred doilies, but I had never made a textured one until now!

This is my first textured doily!

The pattern is Ziva by Preetha Jeyaram Mohan.

Preetha has tested a lot of my crochet patterns, and I was glad and excited to test a pattern for her.

This was a challenging project and I learned a couple of new interesting stitches along the way.

I absolutely love the way my Ziva doily turned out! I used aunt Lydia's classic thread in size ten and a 1.75 mm steel hook. My doily turned out 10 inches.

I was worried that when I block my Ziva doily, the dark blue color might bleed. And it did!

But I actually like the way it looks!

In my previous posts I've shared some personal struggles that my family and I are going through. A lot of you have been very supportive. I greatly appreciate that!

This summer has been very difficult for me. I live in constant state of stress and anxiety. And now there is also so much worry and sadness in my heart.

About a month ago, my father had an open heart surgery. The doctors said it went well, but his recovery has been very difficult. He was admitted to the hospital twice after the surgery. He had fever for many days and was very weak and fatigued, yet the doctors were saying it's just a part of the recovery process.
Finally, when he was back at the hospital for the third time, they discovered there was an infection and they had to perform another urgent surgery.

It's been a few days now, and my dad is still in the hospital in a critical condition.
I'm really scared and worried. And I just don't know how to deal with all these feelings and emotions!

Crocheting doesn't help at the moment as I can't focus and keep making stitching mistakes.
I did a lot of gardening today. That seemed to help a little.

Tomorrow I'm going to drive two hours to visit my dad.

Please, keep my dad, my family, and me in your prayers and positive thoughts. Just knowing you are there for me helps. Thank you!

  1. That is such a lovely doily!

I will pray for your father. I know what you are going through. Three years ago my father had two heart rests and the doctors had to operate him. They put a pacemaker but he had to undergo surgery a second time. Still the pacemaker wasn't functioning properly and the doctors were going to operate on him a third time, but thank the Lord, the operation wasn't necessary since they could program it to function properly. I saw my father three times at death's side, but the good Lord heard my prayers.

That scare went away, but now every winter is a struggle, since he can catch pneumonia very easily. He's gone through 3 winters now, and as come out weaker each time. He does recover in the summertime, but the winter toll is noticeable from year to year.

I know what living in anxiety is, my dear friend. The only thing that comforts my heart is knowing that our Father in heaven is looking after us, and when my father shall part I just pray that the Lord takes him to be with Him. I hope you will find comfort in the Bible and in prayers as I will be praying for you and your family and your father.

  4. Olga I love the textured doily. I feel for you. I know you are going through an emotional time. I went through this with my father a year and a half ago. It's stressful and worrisome but you'll get through this. I found that staying busy helps ease the mind but even then you just have to take it day by day and sometimes minute by minute. My thoughts are with you sweet girl.

  5. I love your textured doily, I've never stitched one either but yours turned out beautifully with the three shades of blue. I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad, sending lots of best wishes and positive thoughts to you and your family. We have had a lot of serious health issues in my family too in the last few years and so I can understand a little of what you're feeling. When my Grandma was in hospital, I worked on a doily just to have something to do with my hands, but it was so ill done that I took it back at least three times and then unravelled it all in the end :) Sometimes the act is more important than the result. Anything to help distract yourself and calm your worry is worth doing. I find crossword puzzles and reading really helped too. Very glad you have your gardening. Beca is right about keeping busy, it's the only thing that helps. Best wishes for a full and speedy recovery for your Dad!

  6. I will be praying for you also. There are 2 old sayings that I like to remind myself of during hard times. "This to shall pass" and "it is darkest before the dawn"
. I hope that things will get better soon. Take care.

  7. The doily looks wonderful!
Sorry to hear about you father. I pray for you and your family to help in stressful time and for your father's safe recovery. Sometimes life is frustrating, just concentrate on positive thoughts which I know don't come easily. Try distracting yourself and do few things that makes you happy, eventhough you might feel guilty of doing so. That is needed to calm down yourself. If you help yourself then you will get the energy to help your father and family.

We would firstly like to compliment you for your amazing work. We´ve been following your blog for some time and we would really like to have the chance to show you some beautiful crocheting work that can be found in the crochet mochilas of the indigenous Wayuu tribe of Colombia. We are Wayuu bags enthusiasts and have been lucky enough to have had the chance to work directly with the Wayuu community for almost 1 year. We are trying to gather support for our website, as we are looking forward to expose some of the most elaborate designs of these masterly artisans. Hoping that by doing so, we can create direct convenience links that benefit the entire community.

We would like to send you 5 Wayuu Bracelets so you can admire their weaving skills and help us spread these beautiful handicrafts in your amazing blog. If not, possible we would still like to send you these gifts as a small sample of faithful and full-time admirers of your work.
