Preemie and Micro Preemie Baby Caps, Free Crochet Pattern

There are lots of baby hat patterns available on the Internet; however, there are not that many preemie baby hat patterns. So I would like to share my simple pattern for these preemie and micro-preemie baby caps. I know a lot of ladies crochet for charities, so I hope my patterns will be useful.

US Hook size F/5 (3.75 MM)

Light worsted yarn, about 30-40 yards

For the beanies shown above I used Beehive Baby Sport by Patons

Gauge: first 3 rounds = 2.75 inches in diameter

Abbreviations:

ch chain

sl st slip stitch

sc single crochet

dc double crochet

* * Instructions between asterisks should be repeated as many times as there are stitches to accommodate them.

Size: Preemie, about 11 inches in circumference (plus stretch), and 4.25 inches in height

Magic ring.

Round 1: ch 3 (counts as 1^st dc), 11 dc in ring; join with sl st to 3^rd ch of beginning ch-3. (12 dc)

Round 2: ch 3 (counts as 1^st dc), dc in same beginning space, 2 dc in each dc around; join with sl st to 3^rd ch of beginning ch-3. (24 dc)

Round 3: ch 3 (counts as 1^st dc), dc in same beginning space, dc in next dc, *2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc* around; join with sl st to 3^rd ch of beginning ch-3. (36 dc)

Round 4: ch 3 (counts as 1^st dc), dc in same beginning space, dc in next 2 dc, *2 dc in next dc, dc in next 2 dc* around; join with sl st to 3^rd ch of beginning ch-3. (48 dc)

Round 5: ch 1, sc in back loop only in same beginning space, sc in back loop only of each dc around; join with sl st to 1^st sc. (48 sc)

Round 6: ch 1, sc in back loop only in same beginning space, sc in back loop only of each sc around; join with sl st to 1^st sc. (48 sc)

Repeat Round 6 until the hat measures 4.25 in height. Fasten off.

Size: Micro-Preemie, about 9.5 inches in circumference (plus stretch), and 4 inches in height

Magic ring.

Round 1: ch 3 (counts as 1^st dc), 9 dc in ring; join with sl st to 3^rd ch of beginning ch-3. (10 dc)

Round 2: ch 3 (counts as 1^st dc), dc in same beginning space, 2 dc in each dc around; join with sl st to 3^rd ch of beginning ch-3. (20 dc)

Round 3: ch 3 (counts as 1^st dc), dc in same beginning space, dc in next dc, *2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc* around; join with sl st to 3^rd ch of beginning ch-3. (30 dc)

Round 4: ch 3 (counts as 1^st dc), dc in same beginning space, dc in next 2 dc, *2 dc in next dc, dc in next 2 dc* around; join with sl st to 3^rd ch of beginning ch-3. (40 dc)

Round 5: ch 1, sc in back loop only in same beginning space, sc in back loop only of each dc around; join with sl st to 1^st sc. (40 sc)

Round 6: ch 1, sc in back loop only in same beginning space, sc in back loop only of each sc around; join with sl st to 1^st sc. (40 sc)

Repeat Round 6 until the hat measures 4 inches in height. Fasten off.

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

Soft Twinkle is the name of my new baby blanket! 

For this blanket I used super fine (category 1, aka lace, fingering) yarn. To be specific I used two skeins of Woolike by Loops & Threads. This yarn is 85% acrylic and 15% nylon, but it almost feels like cashmere. I'm absolutely in love with this yarn, and I have used it for other crochet projects as well. 

The price is $2.99 per skein, so the total cost of my blanket (including the sale's tax) is under $7. Of course, all the work and love that went into creating this blanket are priceless. Nonetheless, it is a great deal for a baby/newborn shower gift. 

The blanket is very soft and light in texture. It's perfect for the newborn angles that are born in summer months. 

I made mine in blue, but it will look great in other colors as well. 

And the pattern will work with worsted weight yarns too. 

I wrote and shared the pattern for the twinkle stitch here. You are welcome to use it. 

But the pattern for the entire blanket is available in my shop. It's very detailed and easy to follow.

Victorian Crochet Baby Dress and Hat

Crocheting baby dresses and hats is so much fun. Then dressing up my doll Lucy and taking pictures is even more fun. I love how she looks in this lace outfit. 

This is not a vintage pattern; this is my own pattern. This baby set has such an old-fashioned and angelic look to it, so I named it Victorian. 

The dress and hat are made of super fine (category 1, fingering, lace) yarn. I used size E/4 (3.5 mm) hook. The size is newborn.

Petunia Ruffled Scarf

I just love, love, love how my new scarf turned out!

It was a very beautiful (and actually quite inexpensive) yarn that I started with - Boutique Unforgettable by Red Heart. It's a soft, acrylic yarn that comes in several beautiful colors. 

I used a big hook (size J/10, 6.00 mm) and the scarf came out very light in texture. It would be suitable for all seasons. 

I'm going to wear my new scarf with a pink cardigan and jeans for a casual yet elegant look. 

The pattern (which is very easy) is available in my Etsy shop.
