Here is a video tutorial for a quick and easy way to make a beautiful crochet rose! You can make it with different yarns to achieve different sizes and textures.

If you make it with cotton yarn, this could be a lovely face scrubby.

Crochet Autumn Flowers

Finally fall has arrived! It seems that many trees around my neighborhood turned yellow, red, and brown just in a few days. The sites around are beautiful and I feel in the mood for the fall colors too.

I had a bit of free time (my mom is visiting us right now and helps with the kids), so I experimented with the yellow, red, and brown yarn in my stash and came up with these simple flowers. I might add them to my autumn wreath that hangs on our front door now.

Crochet Rose Tutorial

I’ve seen such roses (but in smaller sizes) used in Irish crochet. The idea is not complicated, and I was able to come up with my own pattern. For the roses shown, I used cotton yarn (can’t tell the size and brand as it’s been in my stash forever).

I can picture a beautiful cushion with such rose bouquet on it. Another idea would be a table runner; something similar to this one. Or, perhaps, these roses could be incorporated into a gorgeous afghan (that would be a lot of work though).

As you can see from the pattern, I used different amount of double crochets (15, 16, 17, and 18) for the petals. That’s because I wanted the petals to be of different sizes. Also the place where the petals are attached with a slip stitch can be slightly different.

You may end up with a bit of chain left, which is not enough to make a petal. In that case, just wave it in on the wrong side of the rose.

Ch 100.

Center: Sl st in 8th ch from hook. Ch 1, 17 dc in ring, hdc in ring.

In the following instructions dc and hdc should be worked around the chain.

Petal 1: hdc, 15 dc, hdc around ch. Sl st in 7th dc of ring.

Petal 2: ch 1, hdc, 17 dc, hdc. Sl st in 7th dc from last sl st.

Petal 3: ch 1, hdc, 18 dc, hdc. Sl st in 6th dc of Petal 1.

Petal 4: ch 1, hdc, 18 dc, hdc. Sl st in 2nd dc of Petal 2.

Petal 5: ch 1, hdc, 15 dc, hdc. Sl st in 10th dc from last sl st.

Petal 6: ch 1, hdc, 16 dc, hdc. Sl st in 6th dc of Petal 3.

Petal 7: ch 1, hdc, 15 dc, hdc. Sl st in 11th dc from last sl st.

Petal 8: ch 1, hdc, 17 dc, hdc. Sl st in 11th dc of Petal 4.

Petal 9: ch 1, hdc, 15 dc, hdc (If you used up all the chain, make this last hdc into last ch, but if you have a bit of chain left make this hdc around ch). Sl st in 4th dc of Petal 5.

Fasten off. If you have a small amount of chain left, wave it in on the wrong side of the rose.

Quick Crochet Flowers

I already have a bunch of crochet flowers that I don’t have immediate use for. But it’s nice to have them on hand to use for gift wrap. I have flowers in different sizes and colors, so that I can pick one that matches the wrapping paper.

I just added another three flowers to my bunch. They are quick and easy to make.

I made them with thick cotton thread, but I think the pattern should work with yarn as well. My flowers came out about 3 inches in diameter.

Ch 10, join into ring with sl st.

Round 1: ch 1, 14 dc in ring, sl st to join the round.

Round 2: *ch 10, skip 1 sc, sc in next ch* 6 times, ch 10, sk 1 sc, st st into next sc.

Round 3: sl st to 1st ch of ch-10, *ch 3, sl st into next ch* around the petal. Make the remaining 6 petals in the same way. Fasten off.

One Pattern, Two Flowers

I recently made a baby hat and was looking for a flower to adorn it. I didn’t want to use any of the flowers I already used, so I experimented and came up with a new flower pattern.

The two flowers shown in the pictures are basically the same pattern with one difference – chain ring vs. magic ring as a start.

The flower on the right was made starting with a chain 5 joined into a ring. I wasn’t too happy about the big hole in the middle. Though it works nicely if a cute button is added (I didn’t have a cute button on hand, so I used the only one I could find simply for the sake of taking a picture).

So, to fix the problem of the big empty flower center, I tried a magic ring. It worked out perfectly! The flower on the left is the one I will be using for my baby hat (which I’ll show you later this week).

If you are not familiar with the magic ring technique, this tutorial might be helpful.

I used Snuggly Wuggly by Loops and Threads and US size H/8 (5.00 mm) hook. The flowers turned out almost three inches (about 7.5 cm) in diameter.

I give the patterns for both versions below.

Empty Center Crochet Flower

Ch 5, join in ring with sl st.

Round 1: ch 1, *2 dc, sc in ring * 5 times, sl st into first ch-1 to join the round.

Round 2: ch 2, turn the flower to the wrong side and work into original ring, sc in between next 2 dc, ch 3, *sc in between next 2 dc, ch 3* 4 times, sl st into first sc to join the round. You should have five ch-3 loops on the wrong side of the flower.

Continue working on the right side of the flower into the ch-3 loops made in Round 2.

Round 3: ch 1, *5 dc in next ch-3 space,  sc in next sc* 5 times.

Fasten off.

Magic ring

Round 1:  ch 1, *2 dc, sc in ring * 5 times, sl st into first ch-1 to join the round. Don’t pull the magic ring yet!

Pull the ring tightly!

Continue working on the right side of the flower into the ch-3 loops made in Round 2.

Round 3: ch 1, *5 dc in next ch-3 space,  sc in next sc* 5 times.

Fasten off.

Simple Leaf Crochet Pattern

The photo above is a sneak peek at my flower cushion project (which is coming along quite well and I hope to finish it this week). I’m posting this picture because I want to share the pattern for those cute simple leaves.

By the way, if you are wondering about the pattern of the blue flower, you can see it here.

Ch 14 loosely.

Sc in 3rd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, 2 dc in next 2 ch, 2 tr in next ch, 2dtr in next ch, 2 tr in next ch, 2 dc in next 2 ch, hdc in next ch, sc in next ch, 2 sc in last ch.

Continue along the other side of the starting chain:

Sc in next sc,  hdc in next ch, 2 dc in next 2 ch, 2 tr in next ch, 2dtr in next ch, 2 tr in next ch, 2 dc in next 2 ch, hdc in next ch, sc in next ch, sl st to join.

Fasten off.

Layered Crochet Flower

I was searching the Interned for the patterns of big crochet flowers for my flower cushion project and came across this wonderful tutorial. I absolutely love this flower. It’s exactly what I had in mind.

I made two of these flowers using white and blue yarn. In the first one, I started with the white yarn, and then used the blue one.

In the second flower, I switched the colors. The flowers are quite big and the layers of petals really stand out. The will be perfect for my cushion.

Croco Flower

I’m not sure why this flower is called “croco”. But I think “croco” is short for crocodile. The petals of this flower resemble crocodile stitch, and perhaps that’s where the flower got its name.

The pattern was designed and shared by Bonita Patterns. Click here to see the free pattern.

The flower was quick to make and the pattern was straightforward to follow.
However, the petals on my flower didn’t come out as pointy as in the original pattern. I guess it depends on what kind of yarn one uses. But otherwise I love this pattern!

Crochet Thread Flower, Photo Tutorial

One of the readers asked me for help with Brunfelsia Inspired Crochet Flowers, and I promised her to make a photo tutorial.

Size 10 crochet cotton thread, size 10 hook.

We begin by making ch 5 and joining it with a sl st into a ring.

Next we work the first round. Ch 2, *sc in ring, ch 1* 4 times, join with a sl st.

After this round we should have 5 ch-1 spaces. We will use these ch spaces to make five petals.

In the second round we make our petals. Here is how a petal is made: (ch 3, 2 dc, ch 3, sl st) all in the same space.

Then we use a sl st to get into next ch-1 space, and again we make a petal: (ch 3, 2dc, ch 3, sl st) all in that ch-1 space.

In the same manner, we make all five petals, and a sl st to join with the first petal.

In the third round, we make the petals a bit bigger.

ch 4

Next we make a sc in top of the petal; that would be the space between 2 dc.

Again ch 4

And now we make a sl st into space between two petals.

The picture below shows how I worked two petals.

And in the same manner, we work all five petals.

That’s it! Fasten off!
