Field of Daisies, Crochet Motif for a Tablecloth, Video Tutorial and Symbol Chart

Recently I've been enjoying crocheting with white thread, but I thought it would be fun to have little splashes of color in my thread crochet projects now and then!

So here it is, a bit of yellow in the middle of a daisy flower motif!

These motifs would make such a gorgeous tablecloth or a lacy curtain for a sunroom!

The motif measures about 4 inches across. It is very easy and quick to crochet!

I used Red Heart Crochet Classic Thread size 10 and crochet hook 1.6 mm.

I recently started sketching symbol charts for my projects (in addition to filming video tutorials), and so many of my customers and followers find they very useful!

Or you can purchase the symbol chart in a PDF format from my Etsy or Ravelry shops. The link to the video tutorial is included in the pattern.

Happy crocheting!

Delicate Lace Crochet Stitch, Only ONE Repeating Row, Crochet Video Tutorial and Symbol Chart

Here is a delicate lace stitch with tilted shells and picots!

The pattern has only one repeating row, which is very easy to remember.

I worked this sample with 100% mercerized cotton thread size 10 and a steel crochet hook 1.6 mm.

However, this stitch will look equally beautiful if done with yarn. Category 2 or 3 yarns would work wonderfully!

I can see a beautiful table runner worked in this stitch. Or perhaps a rectangular lacy shawl!

Or if you are an advanced crocheter and will be able to figure out how to do decreases and increases, a summer cardigan made in this stitch will look fabulous!

Or if you prefer to have it in a PDF format, you can purchase this pattern (written instructions + symbol chart) from my Etsy shop

The Best Cotton Yarn for Crochet

Those of you who have been following my blog and Youtube channel for a while know that I am a big fan of YarnArt Begonia yarn, which is a 100% mercerized cotton, category 2 yarn!

I have made many projects with this yarn in the past, the biggest one being this romantic summer dress!

And just recently I ordered this yarn in a slightly different color!

I bought five skeins of this lavender shade for only $15.96 (plus sales tax) on Amazon!

With the cost of yarn constantly going up, I was surprised to find this deal! I don't think the price will remain this low for long, so I am going to stock up on this yarn, which means you will see more crochet projects made with this yarn on my blog and my channel in the future!

In fact, I am using this yarn in a beautiful deep ocean color for my current crochet project! I hope to finish it soon and share the pattern and tutorial with you!

Thread Crochet, Lacy Fans Stitch, Crochet Pattern and Video Tutorial

It had been a very long time since I crocheted with thread! And I really miss it!

After all, that's how this blog of mine started back in 2011. Back then I was crocheting tons of doilies and wanted to archive all of them, so this blog came around.

With time I switched to other types of crochet, but I have always had a special place in my heart for thread crochet!

And now I'm going back to it!

There is something magical and very romantic about thread crochet!

The stitches are small and delicate. It takes much longer to complete a project with thread rather than yarn, but the final result is always outstanding!

The stitch that I'm sharing in this post is very simple, with only four repeating rows. It can be worked with yarn as well.

But when worked with thread, its simplicity is just stunning!

I can see a beautiful table runner worked in this stitch!

Or a loosely fit summer top! You know the kind where you work two panels and simply do the shoulder and side seams! Simple, but elegant!

I think this is a useful stitch to have in one's collection of crochet lacy stitches, whether you are going to make it with thread or yarn!

As always, the free video tutorial is available on my Youtube channel.

And the written pattern can be purchased for only a few dollars from my Etsy and Ravelry shops.

It's a Pika Doll! Ploxglem Crochet Kit for Beginners Review

It's hard to believe that even though I have crocheted for over three decades, I had never made an amigurumi! Until now!

Ploxglem offered me to review their Pika Doll Crochet Kit for Beginners, and I gladly accepted their offer!

I will start with the materials! The kit includes everything you will need to complete the project: the pattern, yarn, crochet hook, a pair of safety eyes, a tapestry needle, stitch markers, and stuffing!

The yarn is a tube yarn, which is easy to crochet with and creates a dense, strong fabric, which is perfect for amigurumi projects!

The pattern is well written and super easy to follow!

Working on this project was quite magical!

Once I added the pair of safety eyes, it felt like my Pika doll is becoming alive! It brought me such childish joy and excitement!

And when I embroidered the tiny nose and the rose cheeks, it felt like the Pika doll is looking at me and saying: Hello!

This would be such a wonderful project to complete with your child or grandchild!

Even if the child cannot help with the stitching, there are so many other things they can help with! Like stuffing on figuring out where to place the eyes or embroider the cheeks!

No matter what your crochet skill level is, you will enjoy completing this project!

All you need to know is how to make chains, single crochets, and slip stitches, and how to make basic stitching with a needle! That's all you need!

After I finished my Pika doll, I had plenty of materials left. So you don't need to worry about not having enough yarn or stuffing!

I gave the finished Pika doll to my youngest son, and he absolutely loved it! He asked me to put it on a keychain, so he could hang it from his school backpack.

And there it is, dangling together with Super Mario or other characters.

I want to say thank you to Ploxglem for creating this wonderful kit, and for giving me an opportunity to review it!

I enjoyed completing this project, and my son loved the finished Pika doll!

Crochet Lacy Square for a Tablecloth, a Baby Blanket, a Summer Top, etc. Crochet Pattern and Free Video Tutorial

Here is an easy to crochet lacy square that only has two repeating rounds, and is so addictive!

Once you start crocheting it, you won't be able to put down your hook! I guarantee you that!

And whatever you choose to make with this design (a tablecloth, a baby blanket, a summer top, etc), it will be simply stunning!

This is a very easy pattern, and the best part of it is you can use any yarn and corresponding hook size of your choice!

I would not recommend variegated yarns, but self-striping yarns, as well as solid color yarns, will work!

As for me, I really like crocheting with mercerized cotton, so I made this sample square with YarnArt Begonia yarn and a steal hook size 1.6 mm.

As always, I have a free video tutorial for this project on my YouTube channel!

And the written version of the pattern is available on Etsy and Ravelry

Happy crocheting!

Gray, White, and Blue Stripes Baby Blanket, Crochet Pattern and Tutorial, Skill Level EASY

It had been ages since I crocheted a baby blanket! There are tons of baby blanket patterns on my blog, as I used to make a lot of them in the past!

But then I shifted towards other crochet projects, and only would crochet a baby blanket if I was commissioned to do so.

But now I had a reason to make this one!

There is going to be a new baby in my extended family! It's going to be a baby boy, who is due to arrive in September!

So, of course, I had to make a baby blanket!

I used the yarn that I already had in my stash - Soft Baby Steps by Lion Brand. But I also had to use another skein of gray yarn as I only had four skeins of Soft Baby Steps. I'm not sure what that other skein of yarn was. It didn't have the label, but it was the same in thickness, though slightly different in shade.

As you can see in the photos, I alternated the gray stripes for a symmetric look.

Overall, I think it turned out pretty good!

And the with the cost of yarn (and the cost of living in general) nowadays, I think it was quite clever of me! :)

To achieve those beautiful vertical stripes, I crocheted the blanket along the length, not along the width. In other words, my starting chain was the length of the blanket.

I worked with a hook size H (5 mm).

The finished measurements are about 40 by 33 inches.

This is a very easy and enjoyable pattern with only one row repeat. It is suitable for beginners!

Intermediate and advanced crocheters would love this pattern too! It's just so relaxing! And sometimes that's what an advanced crocheter wants - an easygoing, no-brainer pattern!

The video tutorial is on my YouTube channel:

Happy 4th of July, 2023!

As someone who has lived ten years of her life in the Soviet Union, then another ten years in post-Soviet Ukraine, and now over 20 years in the USA, I will never take for granted that I live in a FREE country!

America was and still is the land of opportunities! And if someone like myself, who came to this country with no money, not speaking the language, not having any talents or special abilities, yet through hard work and determination was able to build a happy and satisfactory life, so can anyone else!

Happy Independence Day fellow Americans and
Happy Birthday America! 🇺🇸♥️💙🤍🇺🇸

P.S. The pattern and tutorial for the flower stitch shown in the photo are coming soon!

Crochet Your Way to a Buyer's Heart with Amigurumi by Elisa Rose, Book Review

A couple of days ago, I reached 24,000 sales in my Etsy shop!

That is totally mind-blowing to me! I actually sold 24,000 PDF files!

When I started writing this blog over a decade ago, I couldn't have imagined where this online crochet journey would take me! I started writing this blog because I was a stay-at-home mother and wife, and I wanted to archive and share with the world all the beautiful things I was crocheting for my babies and for my home at the time.

It's been a long and complex journey with lots of ups and downs, but if I could summarize the essence of it in a few words, I would say it was the readers of my blog who encouraged me to start writing pattens, and it was the readers of my blog who encouraged me to start an Etsy shop and sell my written patterns, and later on it was the readers of my blog who encouraged me to start a YouTube channel!

And here I am, years later, having my own online crochet business! Sometimes a friend or a family member would ask me: "What you are doing tomorrow?" And I answer: "Tomorrow I will work!" And as I say those words, I always smile because my brain just doesn't make that connection that crochet is work!

And yet, for me it is! I am so fortunate to do work that doesn't feel like work!

I want to say a huge thank you to all those people, who found my blog, who wrote me comments and emails, and who got me where I am today!

My personal journey to a successful crochet pattern shop has taken years! It started during the time when there wasn't such abundance of crochet information, websites, videos, etc as what we have today.

On one hand, all that abundance makes it more difficult for someone to start and make it with their crochet business.

But on the other hand, it makes it easier than ever!

Today, I want to share a resource, a complete blue print, for starting and running a successful business of designing, writing, and selling crochet patterns!

It’s a book called Crochet Your Way to a Buyer’s Heart with Amigurumi by Elisa Rose.

The book has the focus specifically on the Amigurumi patterns, but the information and advice provided here apply to any kind of crochet patterns.

I want to share some points why, I believe, this is a valuable resource for someone who wants to have their own online business of selling crochet patterns!

1. A big part of designing and writing quality patterns is math! There is just no way around it! But let’s be honest, not everyone is good at math or likes it. This could be one of the main reasons crocheters prefer to buy patterns. Instead of spending hours trying to figure out the calculations, they would rather pay someone else to do it.

I don’t remember if I ever shared with you that my degree is in statistics. So of course my math knowledge is very valuable in my pattern writing business. However, to create and write crochet patterns you don’t need a college degree in math.

The math concepts that you will need, such as multiples, factors, remainder, etc are all exceptionally well explained in this book.

This is the first time that I come across such well organized and well explained comprehensive guide on all the math needed for crochet designing.

Of course, you can find bits and pieces of it on the Internet, there are tons of articles, blog posts, and videos, for instance I myself recently made a video on my YouTube channel explaining how I figure out “multiple of, plus”.

But if you want to have one resource that you can refer to for all of you crochet math questions, this book is it!

2. A big portion of this book is dedicated to the actual structure of a crochet pattern. It guides you through how to create a template and what to include in it.

This was one of my most favorite chapters of the book because as I was reading through it, I was like: "Check, Yep, I do that, Yes, I always include that in my patterns!" I kind of gave myself a pat on the back because I do include in my patterns everything that the author mentions!

It’s essential that your pattern is well written, comprehensive, and easy to follow. If you have a template, based on which you write all of your patterns, then obviously all of your patterns will have that same quality standard.

If a customer buys one of your patterns, finds it well written and easy to understand, they are going to come back and buy more of your patterns.

3. I’ve been crocheting for over three decades, and I’ve been writing crochet patterns for over a decade, I’m good with math and I have no problem figuring out stitch calculations, so I consider myself to be good at all these aspects of running a crochet business!

But there is one thing that I feel I’m terrible at and that is marketing my work!

Marketing and reaching your potential customers are essential to a successful crochet business, and the author puts a lot of focus on that! There are tons of helpful information, advice, and tips on the subject in the book.

Some of them were completely new to me, others were like “Yeah, I know I should be doing that, but I’m just not really comfortable”, and it’s like if she can read your mind because then she takes you to the next step and talks about how to push yourself out of your comfort zone and try new things.

This part of the book was especially helpful to me! And I can see how it can be helpful to other crocheters trying to sell their patterns!

You know how the saying goes: Don’t judge the book by its cover! To be honest, my expectations of this book were that it was going to be mostly inspirational and motivational, talking about all the wonderful things of having a crochet business of your dreams, and doing what you love, and having passive income…

And the book certainly fulfilled that expectation, BUT in addition to that, it provided tons of practical information, which in my opinion is way more valuable than the inspirational and motivational talking. I greatly recommend this book!

You can find this book on Amazon; it's available in three formats: electronic, paperback, and hardcover.

A huge thank you to Elisa Rose for putting together this valuable resource!
