Beautiful Crochet Lace Stitch for a Baby Blanket, Free Pattern and Video Tutorial

Here is a beautiful lacy stitch for a baby blanket or a scarf!

The skill level is intermediate. I'd say this stitch is a bit complicated, but I filmed a detailed video tutorial!

Multiple of 8, plus 3

Row 1: (dc, ch 2, dc2-clustser) all in 3th ch from hook, skip next 3 ch, sc in next ch, *skip next 3 ch, (dc2-cluster, ch 2, dc2-cluster, ch 2, dc2-cluster) all in next ch, skip next 3 ch, sc in next ch* across to last 4 ch, skip next 3 ch, (dc2-cluster, ch 2, dc2-cluster) all in last ch.

Row 2: ch 1, turn, sc in top of 1st cluster, ch 3, dc in next sc (make dc right in the middle of sc, because if you simply make it in the top two loops, the stitches on the right side of your work will be shifted; see my video tutorial for visual help), *ch 3, sc in top of 2nd (middle) cluster of next group of clusters, ch 3, dc in next sc* across, end with ch 3, sc in top of last cluster.

Row 3: ch 1, turn, sc in 1st sc, *(dc2-cluster, ch 2, dc2-cluster, ch 2, dc2-cluster) all in next dc, sc in next sc* across.

Row 4: ch 6, turn, sc in top of 2nd (middle) cluster of next group of clusters, ch 3, dc in next sc, *ch 3, sc in top of 2nd (middle) cluster of next group of clusters, ch 3, dc in next sc* across.

Row 5: ch 2, turn, (dc, ch 2, dc2-cluster) all in same 1st dc, sc in next sc, *(dc2-cluster, ch 2, dc2-cluster, ch 2-, dc2-cluster) all in next dc, sc in next sc* across, end with (dc2-cluster, ch 2, dc2-cluster) all in 3rd (counting from bottom) ch of turning ch-6.

Repeat Rows 2-5 for the pattern.

Lace Spiders Crochet Stitch Pattern and Tutorial

You probably have seen this stitch (or a variation of it) before. I used a very similar one (though not exactly the same) to make my Spider Stitch Shawl

This open stitch would work great for a light afghan, a lacy baby christening shawl, a table runner, a summer blouse, etc.

I made a detailed, step-by-step photo tutorial. I hope it will be useful.

Multiple of 17, plus 4

I started with ch 55.

Row 1: dc in 5th ch from hook, *ch 5, skip 5 ch, sc in next ch, sc in next 2 ch, ch 5, skip 5 ch, dc in next ch, dc in next 3 ch* across, ending with dc in last 2 ch.

Row 2: ch 3, turn, *dc in next dc, 3 dc in 1st ch of next ch-5, ch 4, skip next sc, sc in next (middle) sc, ch 4, 3 dc in 5th ch of next ch-5, dc in next dc, ch 3, skip next 2 dc* across, ending with 3 dc in 5th ch of last ch-5, dc in next dc, dc in top of turning ch.

Row 3: ch 1, turn, sc in same begging space, *ch 4, skip next 3 dc, dc in next dc, 3 dc in 1st ch of next ch-4, ch 2, skip sc, 3 dc in 4th ch of next ch-4, dc in next dc, ch 4, sc in 2nd (middle) ch of next ch-3* across, ending with ch 4, sc in top of turning ch.

Row 4: ch 8, turn, *skip next 4 dc, 2 dc in each ch of next ch-2, ch 5, skip next 4 dc, sc in 4th ch of next ch-4, sc in next sc, sc in 1st ch of next ch-4, ch 5* across, ending with ch 5, dc in last sc.

Row 5: ch 1, turn, sc in same beginning space, *ch 4, 3 dc in 5th ch of next ch-5, dc in next dc, ch 3, skip next 2 dc, dc in next dc, 3 dc in 1st ch of next ch-5, ch 4, skip next sc, sc in next (middle) sc* across, ending with 3 dc in 1st ch of last ch-8, ch 4, and sc in 3rd ch (counting from bottom) of turning ch-8.

Row 6: ch 5, turn, *3 dc in 4th ch of next ch-4, dc in next dc, ch 4, sc in 2nd (middle) ch of next ch-3, ch 4, skip next 3 dc, dc in next dc, 3 dc in 1st ch of next ch-4, ch 2, skip sc* across, ending with 3 dc in 1st ch of last ch-4, tr in last sc.

Row 7: ch 3, turn, dc in same beginning space, *ch 5, skip next 4 dc, sc in 4th ch of next ch-4, sc in next sc, sc in 1st ch of next ch-4, ch 5, skip next 4 dc, 2 dc in each ch of next ch-2* across, ending with ch 5, 2 dc in top of turning ch.

Repeat Rows 2-7 for the pattern.

Open Lacy Stitch Tutorial

This crochet stitch is simple to crochet and the pattern is easy to remember as only two rows are repeated.

Multiple of 6, plus 5 (to make the sample shown in the pictures I started with ch 41).

Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, *ch 5, skip 2 ch, sc in next ch* across.

Row 2: ch 3, turn; 4 dc in next ch-5 loop, *ch 3, sc in next ch-5 loop, ch 3, 4 dc in next ch-5 loop* across, dc in last sc.

Row 3: ch 1, turn; sc in same beginning space, *ch 5, sc in next ch-3 space* across, end with ch 5, sc in last dc.

Repeat Rows 2-3.

That's it there is to it!

Crochet Lace Stitch

I saw the diagram for this lacy stitch on Pinterest, and of course I had to try this stitch.

I made a swatch using Caron Simply Soft yarn. I bought this yarn to make a scarf, though it's not going to be a lacy one. I have an idea for a ruffled scarf; I hope it will work out nicely.

But this morning I saw a red rose blooming in my garden (how nice to be surprised with occasional rose blooms at the end of October), and I was inspired to try the red yarn for this beautiful stitch.

Doesn't it look fancy and complicated? But it's not that difficult! It looks nice made with yarn, though the openings are quite big. I think this stitch will look best made with fine yarn or even crochet thread.

Many crocheters prefer crochet diagrams, but not everyone is comfortable with them. So I wrote out the written instructions for this stitch.

Multiple of 10, plus 4

To make the swatch shown in the pictures, I started with ch 44.

Row 1: dc in 5th ch from hook, ch 3, skip 3 ch, 3 dc in next ch, *ch 3, skip next 3 ch, dc3tog over next 3 ch, ch 3, skip next 3 ch, 3 dc in next ch* across, end with ch 3, skip 3 ch, dc2tog over next (last) 2 ch.

Row 2: ch 8, turn; dc in each dc of next dc-3 group, *ch 7, skip dc3tog, dc in each dc of next dc-3 group* across, end with ch 3, dtr (yarn over hook three times) in last stitch.

Row 3: ch 3, turn; dc in same beginning space, ch 3, dc3tog over next 3 dc, *ch 3, 3 dc in 4th ch of ch-7, ch 3, dc3tog over next 3 dc* across, end with ch 3, 2 dc in 5th (counting from the bottom) ch of turning ch-8.

Row 4: ch 3, turn; dc in 2nd dc, ch 7, skip dc3tog, *dc in each of next dc-3 group, ch 7, skip next dc3tog* across, end with dc in next dc, dc in 3rd ch of turning ch-3.

Row 5: ch 3, turn; dc in 2nd dc, ch 3, 3 dc in 4th ch of ch-7, *ch 3, dc3tog over next 3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc in 4th ch of ch-7* across, end with ch 3, dc2tog over next dc and turning ch.

Repeat Rows 2-5

Crochet Clusters Tutorial: dc-3-tog, dc-4-tog, tr-5-tog

Crochet clusters are very simple to make. But beginner crocheters might need visual help. So here is a my photo tutorial for you!

I start with a row of single crochets as my base to work my clusters into.

Beginning dc-3-tog: to make a 3-double crochet cluster, I start with ch 2 (it counts as 1st dc).

Next I make a dc into the same beginning space, but I don't finish my dc, leaving the last loop on the hook.

And I make another dc into the same space, again leaving its last loop unfinished on the hook.

And finally I draw yarn through all three loops on the hook. Thus, beginning dc-3-tog cluster is made!

Dc-3-tog: to make my next 3-double crochet cluster I make 3 unfinished double crochets into the same space, now I have four loops on the hook.

I draw yarn through all four loops and my cluster is made!

Beginning dc-4-tog: I start with ch 2 (which counts as 1st dc), then I make three more unfinished double crochets into the same beginning space. I have four loops on the hook.

I draw yarn through all four loops. The cluster is made!

Dc-4-tog: I work four unfinished double crochets into the same space. Now I have five loops on the hook.

And I draw yarn through all five loops.

Beginning tr-5-tog: to make this cluster, I start with ch 3 (counts as 1st tr), I make another unfinished tr into the same space.

And I make three more unfinished tr into the same space. I now have five loops on the hook.

I draw yarn through all of them. Cluster is made!

Tr-5-tog: I make five unfinished treble crochets into the same space. I have six loops on the hook.

I draw yarn through all six loops.

Here is a row of my tr-5-tog clusters.

And now I'll show you how to make two tr-5-tog clusters into the same space.

I make a beginning tr-5-tog.

Ch 5.

And I make another tr-5-tog cluster into the same space.

And again, tr-5-tog, ch 3, tr-5-tog all in same space.

Don't they look lovely?

Wow, that was lots of photos. I hope they will be helpful to my fellow crocheters!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Crochet Stitch Tutorial

Here is an easy and quick lacy stitch. I can imagine making myself a summer top using this stitch. If only I had time for all the crochet projects I have in my mind!

Multiple of 8, plus 6

For the swatch shown below I started with ch 38.

Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, *ch 3, skip next 3 ch, sc in next ch* across.

Row 2: ch 3, turn (counts as dc); 4 dc in next ch-3 space, *ch 1, dc in next ch-3 space, ch 1, 4 dc in next ch-3 space* across, dc in last sc.

Row 3: ch 1, turn; sc in same beginning space, ch 3, *sc in next ch-1 space, ch 3* across to last 5 dc, skip next 4 dc, sc in last dc.

Row 4: ch 4, turn (counts as dc and ch 1); dc in next ch-3 space, ch 1, *4 dc in next ch-3 space, ch 1, dc in next ch-3 space, ch 1* across; dc in last sc.

Row 5: ch 1, turn; sc in same beginning space, ch 3, skip next ch-1 space, *sc in next ch-1 space, ch 3* across to last dc, skip last dc, sc in 3rd ch of turning ch-4.

Repeat Rows 2-5.
