Flower Border Crochet Pattern and Tutorial

Do you love browsing crochet pins on Pinterest the way I love it?

I came across a pin for a lovely flower border. The pin led to someone's blog, but there weren't any descriptions on how to make this border, only pictures.

So, since the ideas are not copyrighted (but exact patterns and pictures are), I decided to try replicating this border. I think I was quite successful as my border looks very similar to the original one (see the original pin here).

It's actually quite easy. 

I started with a filet crochet mesh.

Attach green thread to 3^rd cell of filet crochet mesh.

Then make: ch 4, tr3-tog

 ch 10, sl st in 6^th ch from hook, ch 4, tr4-tog in same cell. 

Skip next 3 cells.

In the next cell make *tr4-tog, ch 10, sl st in 6^th ch from hook, ch 4, tr4-tog in same cell, skip next 3 cells*

Repeat the instructions between the asterisks across. Fasten off. 

Now let's make the flowers.

Attach thread into ch-5 loop. Ch 4, tr3-tog, ch 4, sc in loop. (1^st petal made)

Make the other four petals in same manner. Fasten off.

So as you can see, each flower is made separately. It is a tedious job.  

but the final result is beautiful!

This crochet stitch is simple to crochet and the pattern is easy to remember as only two rows are repeated. 

Multiple of 6, plus 5 (to make the sample shown in the pictures I started with ch 41).

Row 1: sc in 2^nd ch from hook, *ch 5, skip 2 ch, sc in next ch* across. 

Row 2: ch 3, turn; 4 dc in next ch-5 loop, *ch 3, sc in next ch-5 loop, ch 3, 4 dc in next ch-5 loop* across, dc in last sc.

Row 3: ch 1, turn; sc in same beginning space, *ch 5, sc in next ch-3 space* across, end with ch 5, sc in last dc.

Repeat Rows 2-3. 

That's it there is to it!

Big Vintage Doily Free Crochet Pattern

In the original publication (Priscilla Doily Book No. 101 by Coats & Clark's, 1958) this doily is called Midsummer Moon. But I'm going to use it as a Winter Holidays decoration.

This doily is very big; I couldn't even get it all into a picture. I used size ten crochet cotton thread and a 1.25 mm steel hook. My finished doily measures 22 inches across.  It took me about a week to finish this doily. 

Starting at center, ch 4. 1st rnd: 15 dc in 4th ch from hook. Join with sl st to top of starting chain.

2nd rnd: Ch 4, * dc in next dc, ch 1. Repeat from * around. Join to 3rd ch of ch-4 (16 sps).

3rd rnd: Ch 3, 2 dc in same place as sl st, * ch 1, dc in next dc, ch 1, 3 dc in next dc. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 1. Join to top of ch-3.

4th rnd: Ch 3, * dc in next 2 dc, (ch 2, dc in next dc) twice. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 2. Join.

5th rnd: Ch 3, dc in next 2 dc, * ch 3, 3 dc in next dc, ch 3, dc in next 3 dc. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 3. Join.

6th rnd: Ch 3, dc in next 2 dc, * ch 3, 2 dc in next dc; in next dc make dc, ch 1 and dc (V st made); 2 dc in next dc, ch 3, dc in next 3 dc. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 3. Join.

7th rnd: Ch 3, dc in next 2 dc, ch 3, * dc in next 3 dc, ch 1, dc in next V-st sp, ch 1, (dc in next 3 dc, ch 3) twice. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 3. Join.

12th rnd: Ch 3, dc in next 2 dc, * ch 4, dc in next 3 dc, ch 3, dc in next 3 dc, ch 2, dc in next dc, ch 2, dc in next 3 dc, ch 3, dc in next 3 dc. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 3. Join.

13th rnd: Work as for 12th rnd, making 8 ch-5 sps (instead of ch-4 sps).

14th rnd: Ch 3, dc in next 2 dc, * ch 3, 3 dc in 3rd ch of next ch-5, (ch 3, dc in next 3 dc) twice; ch 1, dc in next dc, ch 1, dc in next 3 dc, ch 3, dc in next 3 dc. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 3. Join.

15th rnd: Ch 3, dc in next 2 dc, * ch 3, 2 dc in next dc, V st in next dc, 2 dc in next dc, ch 3, dc in next 3 dc, ch 3, dc in next 7 dc, ch 3, dc in next 3 dc. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 3. Join.

22nd rnd: Ch 3, dc in next 2 dc, * (ch 5, dc in next 3 dc) twice; ch 7, dc in next 3 dc, (ch 5, dc in next 3 dc) twice; skip next dc, dc in next 3 dc. Repeat from * around, ending with dc in next 3 dc, skip last dc. Join.

23rd rnd: Sl st in next dc, ch 3, dc in next dc, * (ch 5, dc in next 3 dc) twice; ch 9, (dc in next 3 dc, ch 5) twice; make 3 2-dc clusters over next 6 dc. Repeat from * around, ending with 2 2-dc clusters. Join to first dc.

24th rnd: Ch 10, * dc in next 3 dc, ch 7, dc in next 3 dc, ch 9, (dc in next 3 dc, ch 7) twice; cluster over next 3 dc, ch 7. Repeat from * around, ending with cluster over last 2 dc. Join to 3rd ch of ch-10.

25th rnd: Ch 8, * (sc in center ch of next loop, ch 5, cluster over next 3 dc, ch 5) 4 times; sc in center ch of next loop, ch 5, dc in tip of next cluster, ch 5. Repeat from * around, ending with sc in center ch of last loop, ch 2, dc in 3rd ch of ch-8.

26th rnd: * Ch 5, sc in next loop, 5 dc in next sc (shell made), sc in next loop. Repeat from * around, ending with shell, sl st in last dc.

27th rnd: Sl st in first ch of next loop, ch 1, in same loop make sc, ch 5 and sc; * ch 5, sc in center dc of next shell, ch 5, in next loop make sc, ch 5 and sc. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 2, dc in first sc.

28th rnd: * Ch 5, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 2, dc in dc.

29th rnd: Ch 5, sc in next loop, * shell in next sc, sc in next loop, (ch 5, sc in next loop) twice. Repeat from * around, ending as before.

30th rnd: Ch 5, sc in next loop, * ch 5, sc in center dc of shell, (ch 5, sc in next loop) twice. Repeat from * around, ending as before.
31st to 39th rnds inch Repeat 28th, 29th and 30th rnds 3 times.

40th rnd: Repeat 28th rnd.

41st rnd: Ch 1, sc in loop just formed, * shell in next sc, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around, ending with shell, sl st in first sc. Break off. Starch lightly and press.

Delicate Shells Newborn Crochet Dress and Hat

Fresh off my hook a new baby dress! 

I made this dress to match the hat from the previous post. 

This is the first baby dress that I made using a super fine (category 1, aka fingering) yarn. It was Woolike by Loops & Threads.

I worked with a size E/4 (3.5 mm) hook.

The dress and hat have very soft texture; absolutely perfect for little angels. The skill level is beginner, and only basic stitches are used - single crochet, double crochet, slip stitch, and chains.

The finished size of this set is newborn. 

The pattern is very detailed and easy to follow. It's available in my Etsy shop.
